5th Annual Dog Walk of the Dead, Sussex County Fairgrounds, 37 Plains Rd, Augusta
New Jersey's premiere Halloween canine event involves “shuffling hordes of the undead and their dogs”, vendors, raffles, classic cars, Halloween pet photos, food, animal adoptions, hourly costume contests, a blood drive and live music. Taking place rain or shine from 11am-4pm, this year’s event benefits One Step Closer Animal Rescue. Participants are encouraged to donate to the shelter and/or help stuff the hearse with pet products for the shelter. All dogs must be leashed and up-to-date on vaccinations, but you’re welcome to participate without a dog. Admission $3./person. Children 12 and under FREE! 29th Annual Halloween Haunted House, Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong
Spooktacular spirits inhabit the Community Lodge where eerie scenarios unfold in dark, scary rooms. Laugh and scream your way through a diverse gathering of ghosts, ghouls, killers and creatures! Spirits roam the outside grounds and bloodcurdling music gets the ghouls dancing. If you dare, take a haunted hay ride (a nominal fee) through the dark and mysterious woods. There’s a matinee performance (suggested for 5th graders and younger) from 4pm to 5:30pm on Saturday, October 21 with regular evening performances from 7pm to 9:30 pm. On Sunday, October 22, another children's hour matinee runs from 4pm to 5 pm with regular evening performances from 6pm to 8pm. Refreshments available at a nominal price. Rain or shine. Admission to the Haunted House is $5 for adults and children alike for the “scary” shows, and $3 per person for the matinee performances. Stock up at the candy store and grab your flashlights for this huge annual Trunk or Treat event that includes a judged costume parade with prizes for the best decorated trunk and for costumes. The Sparta Recreation Advisory Committee expects around 300 trunk or treaters and asks attendees to bring canned goods as admission (to be donated to the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry.)
