Welcome to the "New Jersey Skylands" region, which encompasses both Morris and Sussex counties. Morris County offers a mix of historical sites and established suburban communities with modern services and conveniences. It is more densely populated on the eastern side and, by contrast, much more rural and open on the western side. Morris County ranks among the wealthiest counties in the country, and is home to many national and international corporations. Mass transit is available from many Morris County towns to New York City -- just 30 miles or so to the east. Two major interstates cross each other in the center of the county, which facilitates regional commuting by car. Sussex County is much more rural in character and lies to the north of Morris County. Sussex County is bordered by Pennsylvania to the east and New York to the north. Generally speaking, you can get "more house" or a newer home on a larger lot by moving into Sussex County when comparing real estate values to towns to the south or east (i.e. those closer to New York City). There is limited New York City Commuter service from Sussex County, however many people commute by car to the neighboring counties of Bergen, Passaic, Morris and Warren.
