At some stage in a home owners lifetime with wood floors, you are bound to hear some squeaks. For the first time home buyers...don't worry if you hear squeaky floors. Many will think that this means the floor has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced or they will forever walk on a creaky floor. The reality is quite the opposite. As wood floors get dry, they shrink allowing gaps in between the boards. When stepped on, the boards rub together, causing friction, leading to that squeaky sound. What to do you ask? It's actually quite simple and anyone with two hands can fix! Simply put some talcum powder (baby powder) in between the boards where you have located that "squeak." It's a brilliant DIY home repair that just about anyone can do. The best part....it will save you THOUSANDS!!
